“As an artist I love and appreciate the art of body ink, so much so I was compelled to create a series of paintings of tattooed people”. - Janne Kearney

A painter of stories, people and life... that is how Janne Kearney describes herself, her recent body of work is not just paintings of tattooed bodies, its more than that, it chronicles tattooed people’s lives.

She has an enormous respect for tattoo artists and a fascination for tattoo art and the mystical quality it possesses.

Tattoos can evoke many things in different people from love and adoration to fear and loathing, they can console, empower and beautify.  Her art asks the viewer to disregard preconceived perceptions of people, society and at times reality. Each painting invites you to be astonished, laugh, reminisce, reflect, and contemplate.

Gold, silver and metallic leaf and a range of metallic paints often feature in her work. Her preferred tools of trade are oil on canvas applied by brush, palette knife and homemade tools.

Art is more than the perception of beauty, and the intention of the creator, it is about interpretation.
