Bettina Winther

DANISH PAINTER with her heart in Andalusia

Bettina is a self-taught, abstract painter. The past 8 years she has been living in a small mountain village in Andalusia, where she besides from the painting and courses, has been running a hostel with studios, where artists came from all over the world to work.
Bettina has exhibited many places in Europe and is now situated in Denmark, in the picturesque village of Taarbæk.

Simplicity, Stillness and Harmony.

"Walls can be experienced in two ways. They can be a barrier that prevents progress but at the same time it is possible to feel that they say something themselves.
Walls between people create a block in their search for harmony, the walls themselves forming the limit."

The silent sounds of the walls.

This is how Bettina explains the titles of her paintings. They have been created in the south of Spain where she gets her inspiration from the rock faces and centuries old walls of the village of Competa.
Whether she paints a whole wall or simply a detail of the cracks, layers and layers of quiet earth colors appear in her work to create stillness and harmony. Using marble sand from the mountains, mixed with natural pigments, there appears to be cracks in the paintings.

Bettina’s paintings can be compared to people, who like walls develop layers upon layers laid down by time – and it is this passage of time that allows people to find a stillness and balance.

“Uncertainty means to step into the unknown in every single moment of your existence. The unknown is the sphere of all opportunities, always fresh, always new, always open to the creation of new manifestations.”
Deepak Chopra
